St. Paul hospital receives top rankings in stroke, heart and critical care

ST. PAUL, Minn., Jan. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Regions Hospital today announced it has received Specialty Excellence Awards(TM) for stroke care, critical care and coronary intervention from the 2008 HealthGrades Hospital Quality in America Study. Hospitals who receive these honors were in the top tier in the HealthGrades ratings for these specialty areas.

Among the highlights for Regions in the report:

Cardiac

-- Best in region (St. Paul Area) for coronary interventional procedures

-- Five-star rated for coronary interventional procedures three years in a

row

-- Five-star rated for treatment of heart attack

-- Five-star rated for valve replacement surgery (2007)

Stroke

-- Ranked among the top 10 percent in the nation for treatment of stroke

-- Best in region (Twin Cities east metro) for stroke

-- Five-star rated for treatment of stroke four years in a row

Critical Care

-- Ranked among the top 10 percent in the nation for overall critical care

-- Five-star rated for overall critical care

-- Five-star rated for treatment of sepsis

-- Five-star rated for treatment of respiratory failure three years in a

row

The study is the largest of its kind, analyzing patient outcomes at virtually all of the nation's 5,000 hospitals over the years 2004, 2005 and 2006.
