Recovery Specialists Discuss How Oxygen Therapy Can Ease Fibromyalgia

A new study published by HealthDay News on June 24, 2015, entitled "Oxygen Chamber Therapy May Easy Fibromyalgia, Study Says" sheds light on a possible new treatment option for people living with fibromyalgia – hyperbaric oxygen therapy treatments (HBOT). Over a period of two months of regular HBOT sessions, at least five per week, patients experienced a significant decrease in pain, fatigue, and other symptoms of the painful syndrome. Brain scans also showed that abnormal activity in the pain-related centers of the patients' brains were improved. The Beverly Hills personalized surgical recovery specialists at Pearl Recovery Retreat discuss what these new findings could mean for recovery around the world.

“We are excited to see that new studies are revealing just how beneficial HBOT can be in treating patients in need of pain relief, particularly men and women with fibromyalgia,” said Isabella Koretz, CEO and founder of Pearl Recovery Retreat. “We see just how effective oxygen therapy can be in helping our post-surgery guests recover and heal, so it is not surprising to see that oxygen therapy can improve others' health as well.”

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy treatment is a relaxing, noninvasive process in which patients simply breathe 100% oxygen in a pressurized chamber. Inhaling pure oxygen in an environment with twice the typical amount of air pressure allows the body to deliver increased oxygen to body tissues, blood, and plasma, promoting the natural healing process. When used to treat fibromyalgia in the recent study authored by the director of the Sagol Center for Hyperbaric Medicine and Research in Tel Aviv, Israel, at least 70% of the patients were no longer classified as fibromyalgia sufferers.

“The hyperbaric oxygen therapy treatments at Pearl are specially designed to lessen our guests' discomfort and stress, whether they have recently undergone surgery or are dealing with other medical complications,” continued Ms. Koretz. “We strive to ensure that a stay at Pearl is as relaxing and healthful as possible.”

While HBOT has alone been approved for 14 medical issues, such as diabetic wounds, injuries from cancer, infections, and carbon monoxide poisoning, further testing may encourage the FDA to add HBOT to its list. Once approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), fibromyalgia sufferers can also hope to gain coverage for the treatment through their insurance.

“At Pearl Recovery Retreat, HBOT is available to any guest on request,” added Koretz. “Many of our guests take advantage of our hyperbaric oxygen facilities purely for the emotional and physical benefits. It is not reserved for post-surgery guests.”

Pearl Recovery Retreat is a post-surgery care center located in a private wing of the SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills. The facility caters to those who are recovering from a wide array of surgeries, including bariatric surgery, orthopedic surgery and plastic surgery.
