Kevin Grogan, President of DS Smith Plastics of North America announced today that Rapak’s Union City-California facility, has earned the prestigious Safe Quality Food Level-2 [ed. 7] certification for following Food Safety Fundamentals and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP).
HACCP is a systematic preventive approach to food safety that identifies chemical, biological and physical hazards in production processes causing products to be unsafe. HACCP standards have been increasingly applied to the food, cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries as a practical approach to managing risks, and health hazards. In addition, Rapak's Romeoville-Illinois facility, SQF Level-2 [ed. 7] certification status has been renewed for the second year.
SQF is an approved Global Food Safety Initiative protocol, which has been specifically designed to assess food manufacturers, food sector packaging materials, retailers, agents and exporters. The certification involves annual auditing performed by third party auditors. The initial SQF Level 2 process took nine months to complete with the engaged involvement of over 30 Rapak Team members.
This certification validates Rapak’s commitment and proactive approach to supplying safe products to its customers.
