Innovative HIV/AIDS Program for Public Health Insured Patients to be
Delivered by Community Pharmacists using Mirixa technology
RESTON, Va. and OAKLAND, Calif., July 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Mirixa Corporation and Ramsell Pharmacy Solutions jointly announced today the launch of a pharmacist-delivered medication therapy management initiative for people living with HIV/AIDS. The program will enable retail pharmacists to provide coaching and education for AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP) patients across the country and to promote quality medication-related care, proper adherence, and education regarding HIV/AIDS.
The initiative will leverage Ramsell's extensive experience in HIV/AIDS and public health pharmacy clinical services, and will be delivered via MirixaPro(SM), Mirixa's medication care management system which is in use by Mirixa's nationally contracted network of retail pharmacies. In addition to each state ADAP organization, the same services will be offered to state Medicaid plans.
"We are pleased to have selected Mirixa as our partner on this very important public health initiative, based on their leadership in medication care management, widely used pharmacy-based clinical technology and large contracted network of pharmacies reaching patients in communities nationwide," said Eric Flowers, president and chief executive officer of Ramsell Corporation. "This partnership fits perfectly with our focus on providing quality services to the underserved and medically indigent, always seeking to improve patient outcomes," Flowers added.
ADAPs play an important role in providing prescription drugs to low-income people living with HIV/AIDS who have limited or no access to medications. Nationally, ADAPs have enrolled nearly 146,000 people living with HIV/AIDS and often serve as a bridge to other care and support services.
Programs developed through the initiative will involve the electronic delivery of patient cases to community-based pharmacies. The pharmacists then invite patients to engage in protocol-driven confidential face-to-face education sessions, which are designed to improve medication-related care and increase treatment adherence, benefitting patients and reducing health care costs.
"This collaboration leverages the well documented and high level of trust that exists between patients and community pharmacists. We look forward to working with Ramsell based on its deep experience in public health to deliver quality coaching and education to people living with HIV/AIDS," expressed Rick Solano, chief executive officer of Mirixa Corporation. "This initiative represents a national opportunity to help a population in need and to make a difference in HIV/AIDS medication-related care," Solano added.
