Raising Funding for Life-Saving Mesothelioma Research
Date:11/30/2015

During the week of Thanksgiving, the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation kicked off its annual fundraising campaign to raise funds for its research, education, support, and advocacy efforts. The campaign is held every year-end and usually raises approximately 10% of the organization’s annual funding.

The Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation, which also goes by Meso Foundation, holds the highest rating from Charity Navigator, Is accredited by the Better Business Bureau, and is a 2015 Top Rated Nonprofit by the GreatNonprofits group. More accreditations can be found by visiting http://www.curemeso.org/accreditations.

Among its accomplishments, the Meso Foundation lists well over 94 projects funded, amounting to over 180 articles in peer-reviewed journals and $9 million in funding. The dollar amount more than doubles to nearly $20 million when taking into consideration the $10.3 million in funding to mesothelioma from the Department of Defense, which are a direct result of Meso Foundation advocacy work.

The full letter, which also covers the Foundation’s work in education and patient support services, as well as prevention, can be read here.

The Meso Foundation is a fiscally-responsible organization spending 86 cents of every dollar on its programs. Donations can be made at http://www.curemeso.org/savelives.

Mesothelioma is a malignant tumor of the lining of the lung, abdomen, or heart known to be caused by exposure to asbestos. With the life expectancy of less than one year after diagnosis, medical experts consider it one of the most aggressive and deadly of all cancers. An estimated one-third of those who develop mesothelioma were exposed while serving in the Navy or working in shipyards. Currently, few treatment options exist. There is no cure.

About The Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation
The Meso Foundation is the only 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to eradicating mesothelioma and easing the suffering caused by this cancer. The Meso Foundation actively seeks philanthropic support to fund mesothelioma research; provide patient support services and education; and advocate Congress for increased federal funding for mesothelioma research. The Meso Foundation is the only non-government funder of peer-reviewed scientific research to develop life-saving treatments for this extremely aggressive cancer. To date, the Foundation has awarded over $9 million to research. More information is available at http://www.curemeso.org.
