RISARC CEO Richard Stephenson Publishes OP-ED in the Boston Business Journal; “Massachusetts is winning the revolution in healthcare … again.”
Date:5/15/2013

Burbank, California (PRWEB) May 15, 2013

An op-ed essay by RISARC CEO and Founder Richard Stephenson appears in the current (May 3-9, 2013) issue of Boston Business Journal.

The op-ed discusses the role that Massachusetts has played over the past decade in healthcare reform, commending Governor Deval Patrick for his leadership in implementing a complicated and effective plan that was the model for the new federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (“Obamacare”). Stephenson goes on to note that Patrick has also led efforts to implement electronic health care records at a speed and effectiveness unmatched by any of the other states that are participating in Obamacare.

Said Stephenson: “In October of last year, Massachusetts Governor Patrick sent his own personal health care record electronically from Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield – the first set of medical records to officially travel on what quickly became a busy electronic state turnpike that has now conveyed many millions of health records.”

Stephenson noted that a 2005 RAND Corp. study predicted that digitizing electronic health records would save the nation at least $81 billion annually. In fact, the federal Department of Veteran Affairs alone has already saved over $3 billion in unnecessary healthcare costs in the six years of using the system-wide.

Added Stephenson: “Ready and secure system-wide access to health care records reduces duplicative services that drive up costs.
