Quorn Foods, Purveyor of Meatless Meals, Responds to News That Vegetarianism Cuts the Risk of Cancer
Date:3/1/2013

Bohemia, NY (PRWEB) March 01, 2013

On March 1, meat alternative food company Quorn Foods responds to a new study that suggests that meatless meals can “significantly lower the risk of cancer.”

According to the article in Food Consumer, “cancer is a leading cause of death in the U.S. and it is believed that dietary factors are responsible for at least 30 percent of all cancers in the West.”

Researchers at California’s Loma Linda University School of Public Health examined 2939 cancer cases, finding that vegetarians were “9 percent less likely to develop cancer” as compared to meat-eaters. The findings further indicate that the risk of gastrointestinal cancers, specifically, was 24 percent less among vegetarians.

Concluding that “vegetarian diets seem to confer protection against cancer,” the study found that veganism conferred even better results among the study’s participants. The article reports that “those who followed a vegan diet were 16 percent less likely to develop all cancers, and female vegan diet users were 34 percent less likely to develop female-specific cancers.”

David Wilson, representative for Quorn foods, a meat alternative company which develops innovative foods designed to function as meat replacements, comments on the findings, saying that the health benefits of a well-designed vegetarian diet are substantial. “These findings serve to reinforce earlier research that claims a link between meat and dairy consumption and cancer growth.”

“We at Quorn are thrilled to see the evidence found by the research community dovetailing with the international move toward healthy living and sustainability. This is a global lifestyle shift," says Wilson.

Wilson adds that Quorn Foods’s new vegetarian-friendly products help give even more people a nutritious, easy way to nix the meat element in their favorite recipes.

Quorn Foods launched nationally in the US in 2002. Unlike other vegetarian food companies, Quorn Foods use mycoprotein: a naturally occurring, healthy form of protein that replicates the taste and texture of meat while being significantly lower in saturated fats and calories. Quorn Foods offer a wide range of products including ready to serve meals, food for your barbecue, breaded meat substitutes, snacks and components to make your own meals from scratch. The wonderful taste of Quorn meatless meals provides the taste of the foods you love without sacrificing nutrition.
