Push to Walk Receives Grant from the Kessler Foundation

Riverdale, NJ (PRWEB) January 16, 2013

Push to Walk was awarded a $15,000 Special Initiatives Grant in December 2012. The grant request was made by the organization to help underwrite costs for the 2013 Push to Walk Summer Boot Camp, including guest speakers, scholarship funding, and venue rentals for the week. Summer Boot Camp provides an intensive week long program of exercise and introductions to numerous activities for people with spinal cord injuries, paralysis, and other neurological conditions. Summer 2013 will be the second year Summer Boot Camp is offered and with Kessler Foundation’s grant it should prove to be better than the first.

Funds will also help purchase a hand cycle for clients to use and train for the NJ Marathon. Recreational physical activity is encouraged for clients and the purchase of an additional hand cycle will offer a convenient additional exercise. “Our relationship with the Kessler Foundation continues to strengthen as our non-profit grows and becomes a more recognizable name for those with paralysis" said Cynthia Templeton, Push to Walk Founder.

Push to Walk is able to cover about 65% of its operating costs through client fees, but relies on grants and fundraising events to help make up the difference. “Our clients come to us because they see an improvement in their quality of life. We work hard to keep our fees affordable so cost doesn’t stand in the way of them achieving their goals. The money we received will offer workout hours to individuals in financial need during our Summer Boot Camp week and provide a healthy activity for clients wishing to try hand cycling as a sport,” explains Templeton.

The Kessler Foundation’s Special Initiative Grants are awarded to projects and organizations that operate within the broad spectrum of rehabilitation and physical disabilities in New Jersey. Applications are by invitation only. Grants are for one year and range from $5,000 - $20,000.

Donation opportunities are available on the Push to Walk website: For more information, please contact Stephanie Lajam at (862) 200-5848 or slajam(at)pushtowalknj(dot)org.
