Purolator USA Offers Canadian Customs Expertise for Medical Device Exports
Date:5/29/2009

Medical device manufacturers that ship regularly to Canada are cutting their transportation costs and reducing delivery times, as a result of logistics provider Purolator USA's expertise in U.S. and Canadian customs processes.

Jericho, NY (Vocus) May 29, 2009 -- Medical device manufacturers that ship regularly to Canada are cutting their transportation costs and reducing delivery times, as a result of logistics provider Purolator USA's expertise in U.S. and Canadian customs processes. These efficiencies come at a time when U.S. medical device manufacturers have been impacted by cutbacks in purchases by hospitals and other health facilities, and face an uncertain economic outlook for 2009.

"Many of our medical device customers have been hard hit by the economic downturn, and Purolator is pleased to offer expertise and insight into regulatory processes that can facilitate the border clearance process and even cut costs," says Purolator USA Director of Sales John Jensen.

"Like most countries, Canada puts a high priority on ensuring that imported health-related products are safe and that they meet the standards for the sale of such products in that country," Jensen said. "Canada has adopted a risk-based approach, whereby a medical device is assigned to one of four 'risk classes,' with various regulatory mandates assigned to each class."

"Unless you have a pretty thorough understanding of the intricacies of each risk class, the CBSA clearance process can be an extremely tricky process," he added.
