Publication Provides a Wake-Up Call For Clinicians Treating Narcolepsy
Date:4/9/2008

MONTVALE, N.J., April 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Narcolepsy remains underdiagnosed and undertreated even though this neurologic dysfunction is better understood and the available treatment options have increased in the last decade.

To help health care providers and psychiatrists treat this neurologic sleep disorder, The Journal of Family Practice and Current Psychiatry have published the supplement "Stay awake! Understanding, diagnosing, and successfully managing narcolepsy." This CME supplement uses a case-based approach to help clinicians identify and treat narcolepsy. This publication also provides a concise review of the epidemiology and pathophysiology of this sleep disorder.

The Journal of Family Practice, a peer-reviewed journal distributed to 96,000 primary care physicians, and Current Psychiatry, a peer-reviewed journal distributed to 38,000 psychiatrists, collaborated with The Chatham Institute, a medical education company and CME provider, to develop this journal supplement. This supplement was supported by an educational grant from Jazz Pharmaceuticals.

Nurse practitioners and physician assistants can find this publication at http://www.apctoday.com, an online resource for advanced practice clinicians.
