Providigm Hires Chief Scientific Officer
Date:9/17/2013

Denver, CO (PRWEB) September 17, 2013

Providigm, the industry leader in developing quality assessment methods, measures and systems for post-acute and long-term care, announced today that Michael Lin Ph.D., a nationally renowned academic researcher, has joined the company as Providigm’s Chief Scientific Officer (CSO). As CSO and a member of the Providigm Research Team, Dr. Lin will assume leadership of the research program. Prior to joining Providigm, Dr. Lin was part of the faculty at the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health, a program that is internationally regarded in long-term care. Dr. Lin blends extensive scientific training with a deep commitment to quality improvement in long-term care.

Providigm will allow me to bring together my interest in working with health care organizations to improve quality of care to elders, as well as continue with cutting-edge research that is so necessary to innovate in service delivery,” remarked Dr. Lin. Since receiving his Ph.D. from University of California, Berkeley, Dr. Lin’s research has focused on health information technology implementation in nursing homes, market dynamics between nursing homes and assisted living facilities, and organizational culture in nursing homes.

Dr. Lin worked with Providigm’s CEO, Dr. Andrew Kramer at the University of Colorado from 1997-2001 on development and evaluation of the QIS process, as well as studies on the relationship between staffing and quality of care in nursing homes. According to Dr. Kramer, “Mike comes to us with a rare blend of both scientific expertise and familiarity with the organizational challenges that come in providing high quality care to elders. Our research team is unique in the private sector; it has sufficient academic strength to receive government funded research grants, while also underpinning innovative solutions for enhancing quality. I look forward to Mike assuming the leadership role in our growing international research program.”

Dr. Lin received his undergraduate degree from Swarthmore College and then attended University of North Carolina for his MSPH. He received his Ph.D. in the field of Health Services and Policy Analysis in 2006 receiving the James B. Grossman Dissertation Prize. While at University of Pittsburgh, he and Dr. Kramer continued to collaborate, most recently publishing a paper in the Journal of Social Policy and Aging entitled, “The Quality Indicator Survey: Background, Implementation, and Widespread Change” (Lin and Kramer, 2013).
