Date:8/31/2009

HACKENSACK, N.J., Aug. 31 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today, Virgil H. Simons, Founder and President of The Prostate Net announced the organization will be conducting its inaugural golf outing to raise support for their mission of providing educational awareness, treatment and management option initiatives for prostate cancer patients and healthcare providers. The Fore! Informed Decisions Golf Outing will take place on Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at Sunningdale Country Club located in Scarsdale, NY. The outing welcomes all levels of players, men and women, with proceeds benefiting The Prostate Net.

The Fore! Informed Decisions Golf Outing offers an opportunity for prostate cancer survivors, spouses, friends, supporters, business professionals and community leaders to engage with national medical influentials for a day of fun and relaxation while raising money to support the programs and services The Prostate Net has been providing to prostate patients and their families nationally for the past 13 years. The golf format will also assist The Prostate Net in meeting its mission to provide credible and actionable information on prostate cancer using a synergistic and actionable blend of renowned cancer clinicians and researchers, cancer survivors and corporate supporters who will enable patients, their families and health professionals to partner in making the appropriate choices to assure the best chance for cure and retention of their quality of life.

The golf outing will follow a specially designed day-long medical education symposium that will be conducted at the NYU Kimmel Center on Tuesday, October 6, 2009, attracting patients/survivors and medical professionals from the Greater Metro Area (New York, Connecticut and New Jersey). This dual-track medical education event for patients/spouses, advocates and medical healthcare professionals will feature leading edge contemporary medical information on prostate cancer delivered by nationally renowned clinicians. The golf format will provide a relaxed environment for attendees and the program faculty from the symposium a chance to engage, further discuss the information presented and learn from each other on how to better ensure quality care and outcomes. More information about the medical education symposium can be found on The Prostate Net's web site: http://theprostatenet.org/Symposium.html or by calling toll-free: 1.888.477.6763.

About Prostate Cancer and The Prostate Net

Prostate Cancer is the 2nd leading cause of male cancer death globally and the most commonly diagnosed cancer in American men. As the baby boom generation matures, more and more men will be diagnosed with the disease. While there has been some progress in disease mortality over the past decade, there still remains significant disease specific issues relative to risk awareness, advanced disease, treatment options reduction and/or elimination of pain and suffering attendant to a diagnosis of prostate cancer.

Virgil H. Simons founded the Prostate Net in 1996 as a result of his encounter with prostate cancer. When he was diagnosed, there was little to no readily accessible information to help prostate cancer patients and their families make informed treatment decisions.

Today, men diagnosed with prostate cancer can readily access The Prostate Net's website to find information empowering them to make treatment decisions that ensure a desirable quality of life. Recognizing that people absorb information differently, The Prostate Net also features PodCasts, Web Casts and an opt-in cell cast network as well as a Toll-Free "Hotline" for those seeking one-to-one support. The website also is an educational vehicle for the public to learn about prostate cancer in general. The Prostate Net's newsletter, "In The Know," may be viewed on the website, but is available through free subscription as well as also distributed in conjunction with our other public education initiatives.

The job of raising public awareness about prostate cancer risks is far from complete. The Prostate Net seeks to expand its current initiatives through effective partnerships in disease education, community intervention and population research studies. This site has been designed to provide you with some of those tools and guidance that can be employed on a local basis to address particular issues for your community or organization.
