'Project Runway' Designer in New Orleans to Educate About Living with HIV and Combat Stigma Associated with the Disease through Living Positive By Design

sign events in Miami/Fort Lauderdale, Florida, at the 2008 United States Conference on AIDS (USCA); in Atlanta, Georgia, at the Atlanta AIDS Walk; and in New York, New York, at the Gay Men's Health Crisis' (GMHC) annual Fashion Forward fundraiser. In 2009, Jack brought Living Positive By Design to the Academy of Friends' annual Academy Awards Night Gala in San Francisco, California; the AIDS Walk Houston in Houston, Texas as well as the AIDS Foundation of Chicago's Make a Statement: Design for the Cure event in Chicago, Illinois. He will continue to raise awareness about HIV and AIDS through events in additional cities throughout 2009. Prevalence of HIV and AIDS

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than one million Americans are living with HIV and AIDS in the U.S. and approximately 55,000 new people become infected every year. In 2008, 72% of newly diagnosed HIV cases and 70% of newly diagnosed AIDS cases in the state of Louisiana were among African-Americans. Louisiana had the ninth highest number of new HIV cases reported compared to any other state in the country in 2007, and New Orleans ranked second for AIDS case rates among the largest metropolitan areas in the U.S.( )
