Long-Time Educator and Active Community Volunteer Looks to Make an Impact as Inaugural President

Grand Rapids, Mich. (Vocus) October 29, 2009 -- Sanford-Brown Institute (SBI) - Grand Rapids, a career-focused school offering allied health programs, recently named Rick Amidon as its first campus president. Amidon comes to SBI - Grand Rapids from Baker College in Muskegon, Michigan, where he served as president and CEO for 13 years. Prior to that, Amidon was the president and CEO of Baker College in Owosso, Michigan. The Grand Rapids campus is the seventeenth SBI location in the nation and the first in the state of Michigan. It is scheduled to start its first class in November.

Amidon held many positions during his 24 years at Baker College. He began as a professor and worked his way up to positions such as dean of general education, vice president of academics, president and CEO. He holds a Ph.D. in English from Michigan State University.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Amidon has an impressive background as a community volunteer. He is currently on the board of 14 volunteer and charitable organizations in Michigan. Throughout his life, he has chaired more than 15 fundraising campaigns for non-profit organizations such as the United Way, Mercy General Health Partners and Harbor Hospice.

"I have always felt that education and volunteering go hand in hand," said Amidon. "The graduates of Sanford-Brown Institute will be ready to face the challenges ahead in the healthcare field and, in turn, help others in the community through the services they will provide."
