Prescient Medical vProtect(TM) Luminal Shield Receives North American Product Innovation of the Year Award from Frost & Sullivan
Date:9/16/2009

DOYLESTOWN, Pa., Sept. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Prescient Medical, Inc. was honored with Frost & Sullivan's 2009 North American Product Innovation of the Year Award for their vProtect(TM) Luminal Shield.

"This award recognizes Prescient's efforts to reduce heart attack deaths using our Shield, the first product specifically designed to treat soft, vulnerable plaques," said Patricia Scheller, CEO, Prescient Medical, Inc "We believe the Shield will change the treatment paradigm from repairing damage after a patient has had a heart attack to preventing plaque rupture and avoiding the attack altogether. For a privately funded, early-stage company to receive this award is extraordinary, given that previous recipients include Boston Scientific and Bristol-Myers Squibb."

Existing technologies for coronary artery disease focus on hard plaque that narrows the artery. Balloon angioplasty and traditional stents use high pressure to "crack" open hard plaque and scaffold the artery to improve diameter and restore blood flow.

Prescient's vProtect(TM) Luminal Shield is low-force and self-expanding, which creates less arterial injury, promotes healthy cell coverage and stabilizes vulnerable plaque, the cause of up to 85% of heart attack deaths.

"This unique device supports the body's natural healing process and promotes growth of endothelial cells over a vulnerable plaque lesion's thin fibrous cap to prevent it from rupturing," explained Bhavatharini Rajesh, Research Analyst, Frost & Sullivan.

Rajesh added, "The vProtect(TM) Luminal Shield should revolutionize treatment of vulnerable plaque, the leading cause of heart attack. Essentially, this technology allows interventional cardiologists to prevent a heart attack before it happens."
