Prepare Heat Pump for Cold Weather
Date:9/20/2013

Santa Rosa Beach, FL (PRWEB) September 20, 2013

Air Conditioning & Heating Inc. recommends customers perform routine maintenance on their individual heating systems before the cold weather sets in for good.

The Farmers’ Almanac predicts a bitter cold winter this year, and in the past their predictions have held an 80 percent success rate.

Cold weather can wreak havoc on outdoor air conditioning and heating equipment. The outdoor heat pump may ice up outside, which some of it is normal in a heat pump. Excessive build up of more than 1/8 of an inch could be a reason to call the professionals at Air Conditioning & Heating Inc.

If the outdoor heat pump is steaming, don’t panic. The colder the outdoor temperature, the more the system needs to go through a defrost cycle. Do not be alarmed; this has happened to people with new heat pumps who have thought the unit was on fire. Any problem with the outdoor heat pump could trigger the indoor electric heat to come on and heat the home. All heat pumps have back up heat strips installed.

Quickly recovery from a cold home can be done with a heat pump system. Set the system thermostat more than four degrees above the desired room temperature. This will bring on both the outdoor heat pump and the electric heat strip. Slowly adjust the thermostat and the outdoor heat pump should do most of the work.
