PreDiabetes Centers Opens New Location in Fort Worth
Date:7/30/2013

Fort Worth, TX (PRWEB) July 30, 2013

PreDiabetes Centers today cuts the ribbon on a new prediabetes treatment center in Fort Worth and announces the appointment of Kelly Boulden, MD, as its newest physician. A board-certified physician, Dr. Boulden is a highly respected doctor who has practiced in the Fort Worth area for more than seven years. She will lead the prediabetes team–which also includes a registered nurse health coach, phlebotomist and personal trainer–as they provide full-lifestyle, integrated medical care to patients enrolled in the Center’s 12-month treatment program.

Dr. Boulden believes that diabetes is a prevalent disease among Americans, but preventive medicine administered when a person is prediabetic, coupled with proper treatment for underlying conditions, can stop the development of diabetes.

“It’s important to take care of a disease before it grows out of control,” said Dr. Boulden. “We have to change the course of it so people aren’t left with terrible complications.”

Dr. Boulden notes that diabetes affects nearly every part of the body and can cause long-term health problems, including high blood pressure, nerve damage, skin disorders, heart disease, kidney damage, gum disease, and vision problems.

Over the last 20 years, Dr. Boulden has seen hundreds of patients with a wide array of health problems, and diabetes is often a common denominator.

“Diabetes appears in so many [other health conditions]: blindness, heart disease, vascular disease, fatigue,” notes Dr. Boulden. That’s why treating prediabetes before it develops into type 2 diabetes is critical.

She says the problem is that symptoms can be so vague, most people don’t know they have it.

Another problem: Doctors usually don’t give people with prediabetes the attention and treatment needed to reverse the disease. “Doctors tell them to watch what they eat and to exercise, but aren’t equipping them with a plan that makes sense,” said Dr. Boulden.

She says that hormonal balance is an important part of the diabetes puzzle. “If hormones are optimized, it makes it less likely that you’ll become diabetic,” she said.

Thyroid disease is common among prediabetics, she notes. “It’s also very common to find men with low testosterone,” notes Dr. Boulden.

Prediabetes may show symptoms, including increased thirst, frequent urination, fatigue, and tingling and numbness in the fingers and toes. In fact, neuropathy (damage to nerves), which causes tingling and numbness, is an early warning sign that Dr. Boulden typically sees in people with prediabetes.

The PreDiabetes Centers 12-month prediabetes treatment program uses several treatment methods to halt the progression to diabetes, including advanced blood screening, traditional medicine, innovative dietary planning, sleep therapy, stress modulation, and personalized fitness training.

Dr. Boulden believes that fitness shouldn’t be overlooked when it comes to treating any condition.

“Being fit means being active–being mobile. You can do this by walking a couple of times a day, even just walking up stairs,“ Dr. Boulden said. “Of course, it helps to have somebody to be your coach or your partner.”

That’s where the PreDiabetes Centers health coach comes into play: The health coach helps clients adhere to the treatment regimen, plan healthy meals, and stick with the fitness program.

This full-body, comprehensive approach is the best and only way to treat prediabetes, explains Dr. Boulden.

“Integrated treatment is the key to stopping a disease,” she said. “It’s taking care of all of the elements that is prediabetes.”

Dr. Boulden will treat patients at the PreDiabetes Center of Fort Worth, located at 2481 Forest Park Blvd. People interested in booking a complimentary prediabetes blood screening at the Center can call (817) 380-9052 to schedule an appointment.

Dr. Boulden earned her medical degree from the University of New Mexico School of Medicine in Albuquerque, and completed her internship and residency in family practice at the University of New Mexico Department of Family and Community Medicine. She has treated patients at the Southwest Family Health Care Associates and the Dallas Methodist Family Health Center. Dr. Boulden established a private practice in 1999.

Dr. Boulden has lectured on chronic disease and has made numerous appearances on television broadcasts. She has served on many professional advisory committees, including as the Vice President of Southwest Family Health Care Association and President of the Medical Executive Committee.
