Pradaxa lawsuits (http://www.pradaxalawsuithelp.com/) filed on behalf of individuals who allegedly suffered serious incidents of internal bleeding while using the blood thinner continue to move forward in U.S. District Court, Southern District of Illinois, Bernstein Liebhard LLP reports. According to a Case Management Order issued on October 29, 2013, the Court has directed Plaintiffs to designate expert witnesses for the proceeding’s bellwether trial no later than April 4, 2014. The Defense has been given until April 25, 2014 to designate its expert witnesses. At the time of each designation, the parties are also required to provide the Court with two dates for the deposition of those witnesses. In Re: Pradaxa (Dabigatran Etexilate) Products Liability Litigation – MDL No. 2385)
“Our Firm continues to hear from Pradaxa users who allegedly suffered serious episodes of internal bleeding while using this drug. We are pleased to see Pradaxa lawsuits moving forward, and look forward to the start of bellwether trials next year,” says Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm representing victims of defective drugs and medical devices. The Firm is currently offering free legal evaluations to alleged victims of Pradaxa bleeding side effects.
Court documents indicate that more than 1,744 Pradaxa lawsuits are now pending in the multidistrict litigation underway in the Southern District of Illinois. Among other things, these lawsuits allege that Boehringer Ingelheim failed to provide adequate warnings to doctors and patients regarding the lack of a readily available antidote to reverse Pradaxa bleeding.
According to a recent Bloomberg.com report, Pradaxa has been the subject of regulatory warnings in several countries, mostly due to its association with internal bleeding, a known side effect for which there is no known reversal agent.* Most recently, the Institute for Safe Medicine Practices (ISMP) found that Pradaxa was associated with more adverse event reports in 2012 than any other medication, with the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) logging 3,292 adverse events and 582 deaths associated with the blood thinner that year. Most of those reports detailed instances of serious Pradaxa bleeding, the ISMP said.**
According to the Bloomberg.com report, Pradaxa was introduced in 2010 and touted as an improvement over decades-old warfarin. While warfarin carries the same bleeding risk, internal hemorrhaging associated with its use can be quickly staunched with the administration of vitamin K.* According to the ISMP, the FDA received only 861 reports of complications in relation to warfarin use, and just 56 deaths.**
Victims of internal bleeding allegedly associated with Pradaxa may be entitled to compensation for medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering and other injury-related damages.
