Poulsbo, “Little Norway,” Hosts Inaugural Racing Under the Stars, Twilight Criterium, Bike Race

Professional and amateur racers and their fans from across the state will converge on Downtown Poulsbo’s for its first road racing event. Downtown Poulsbo will be providing a historic venue to this exciting event on Saturday, June 11, 2016.

The event is a fast road bike race called a Criterium, a style of racing where participants do circuits on a closed loop. These races are held in towns all across the nation, and in some towns in Belgium, France and the Netherlands. Now, you will be able to witness this fast sport in Little Norway, Poulsbo.

The Poulsbo Twilight Criterium race course will encompass the downtown portions of Front Street, Hostmark, 3rd Avenue, Iverson Way and Jensen. For a detailed map of the race course, visit

Roads will be closed, the downtown shops will be open, and all parking on Anderson Parkway will be available. The only entrance to the parking lot will be from the North, at the Sons of Norway Hall. There will be access points and volunteers to assist pedestrians in street crossings. The King Olav Parking lot at the north end of downtown will be open and accessible.

The race will consist of 8 separate races, categorized by age and gender, and all races are sanctioned by USA Cycling. The first race starts at 3:10 p.m. Prizes for the racers will range from merchandise all the way up to $2,000 cash. There will be a Kids race at 5:05 p.m., where all kids are welcome to bring their bikes down (with helmets) and race like the big kids. It is free to enter the race, and the prizes are ice cream. For information on how to register, go to, and under the Registration tab, click Register Now.

There will also be a special Lap Against Cancer. This segment will benefit Amy Kristine Larson, a Bremerton native who was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer, which has metastasized into her bones. There is no cure for this, and she will require lifelong treatment to keep the cancer at bay. In efforts to help with the financial burden of these expensive treatments, Amy K. Larson STRONG Inc., a non-profit, was formed and donations to this organization help fund her medical costs. This Lap Against Cancer will be sponsored by her foundation and the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. In addition to supporting her treatment costs, 10% of these donations will go to the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, where she and others get their life saving treatments.

For more information on the activities within this event, follow viewers and shops posts on the Historic Downtown Poulsbo Facebook page.
