Podiatry Residents Advance Medical Training with New Online Resource
Date:7/2/2012

Bethesda, MD (PRWEB) July 02, 2012

Podiatry residents across the country now have instant, 24/7 access to the latest online educational resources in their profession, thanks to a new website created by the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) and several other key organizations in podiatric medicine.

Designed for use by podiatric residents and residency directors, the new Residency Education Resource Center (REdRC) is the latest online source of educational materials to supplement residents’ regular studies and conveniently fit into their hectic schedules. Today’s podiatrists receive medical education and training that includes a three-year Podiatric Medicine and Surgery residency. From July 1–15, access to REdRC.org is completely free, during which time users can explore all the site has to offer and view any of the available lectures.

In its debut year, REdRC will feature presentations on topics such as professionalism, OR protocol, and the latest surgical techniques to supplement the training of first-year residents. All lectures are based on the Council on Podiatric Medical Education (CPME) competencies for podiatric resident education and training. More than 50 new lectures will be added yearly until a full complement of lectures is available for first-, second-, and third-year residents. REdRC will also be expanded to include other resident resources such as monthly webinars, procedure- or device-specific supplemental training videos, and a résumé builder section for third-year residents preparing to enter the field.

REdRC is the result of collaboration between APMA, the American College of Foot & Ankle Orthopedics & Medicine (ACFAOM), the American Society of Podiatric Surgeons (ASPS), the American Society of Podiatric Medicine (ASPM), and the Association of Extremity Nerve Surgeons (AENS).

To view presentations on REdRC, residents will be prompted to log in with their APMA member number and password. Cost to training programs to provide this service for their residents is at the low price of $300 per resident due to the generous support of its founding sponsors, including Gebauer Company, the Podiatry Insurance Company of America (PICA), Organogenesis, Inc., Merz Pharmaceuticals, LLC, Bako Pathology Services, and Health Fusion, Inc.

Residents are encouraged to visit REdRC.org today and subscribe.

The American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) is the nation's leading professional organization for today's podiatrists. Doctors of Podiatric Medicine (DPMs) are qualified by their education, training, and experience to diagnose and treat conditions affecting the foot, ankle, and structures of the leg. APMA has 53 state component locations across the United States and its territories, with a membership of more than 12,000 podiatrists. All practicing APMA members are licensed by the state in which they practice podiatric medicine. For more information, visit http://www.apma.org.
