Plastic Surgery Journal Shows New Groundbreaking Genital Cosmetic Procedure for Women to be Successful
Date:12/1/2008

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- One of America's leading plastic surgeons, Dr. Gary Alter, proves that his groundbreaking technique for inner vaginal lip reduction known as the "'Alter' V Technique" is safe and effective. His study is published in the December 2008 issue of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, the official medical journal of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). Labia minora (inner lip) reduction or labioplasty is the most common female genital aesthetic procedure.

During a two year study, Dr. Alter, who is also featured on the E! Network series, "Dr. 90210," presented his labioplasty technique and results in 407 women between the ages of 13-63 years -- Most underwent surgery for aesthetics and discomfort. The technique involves removing a "V" from the most protuberant portion of each labium, then precisely suturing the ends together to give a normal and natural appearance with virtually no scars.

"If a woman considers her labia enlarged or 'deformed,' she may have diminished self-esteem and be sexually inhibited," says Dr. Alter, who practices in both Beverly Hills and Manhattan. "The 'Alter' V Technique, allows women to safely and successfully achieve the natural look they desire with elimination of discomfort."

Major gynecological organizations, such as the American and The Royal Australian and New Zealand Colleges of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, have severely criticized labioplasties due to the previous high complication rates from 'amputation' or 'trimming'. Dr. Alter presents the FIRST major study in a primary peer-reviewed journal showing a labioplasty technique that is safe and reliable with high patient satisfaction. Dr. Alter's study states that 98% of patients would do the surgery again if opted, 70.5% had increased self-esteem, 71.1% had improved sex life and only 4% had minor complications.
