Pivotal White Paper Examines Retail Industry's Critical Role in Reengineering the Health Care System
Date:6/23/2009

YARDLEY, Pa., June 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Custom health communications company StayWell Custom Communications (SCC), a division of MediMedia USA, has partnered with Progressive Grocer magazine to publish the white paper "Retailing's Critical Role in Revolutionizing Health Care and Revitalizing the Economy" to spotlight the retail sector's growing need to influence and impact the country's health care crisis.

The white paper is a blueprint for improving consumer health and wellness, transforming the health care industry, and energizing the U.S. economy through retail. Authored by Dave Nazaruk, Senior Vice President, Retail Sales and Business Development for SCC, the paper examines key aspects of our current health care industry and details how retailers can better position themselves as vital change agents in health care.

"Of all the hubs of health care activity in the delivery system, food and drug retailers provide the greatest touch points with consumers in terms of access, frequency of interaction, and pre-existing relationships of trust, as well as the ability to deliver powerful incentives and education to motivate desired behaviors," according to Nazaruk. "By leveraging these touch points, retailers can play an enormous role in improving consumer health and wellness -- improving their bottom lines, transforming the health care industry and energizing the entire economy in the process."

The report argues that, in spite of already having a tremendous impact on consumer health and wellness, retail is largely overlooked as an important participant in plans to re-engineer the health care system. Further, the report challenges retail industry leaders to work collectively to influence changes to the system which will result in a new model of consumer health management that is accessible, affordable, and engaging to consumers.
