PilotFish Expand’s Healthcare Integration Capabilities with Support for the New Direct Protocol in Its Latest Product Release

Applied PilotFish Healthcare Integration, a provider of middleware solutions, announced today that it has added support for the Direct Protocol to its HL7 Interface Engine IDE, the eiConsole for Healthcare. In addition to the product’s already included and commonly-implemented data transmission protocols, such as LLP, FTP, and Web Services, it now offers support for the emerging DIRECT Protocol.

The Direct Protocol is a specification of the Direct Project and facilitates the transmission of health data securely from a data holder to a third party. The Direct Project establishes standards and documentation to support simple scenarios of pushing data from where it is, to where it's needed, in a way that will support more sophisticated interoperability in the future. Implementation of the Direct Protocol is required for Meaningful Use Stage 2 CEHRT.

The eiConsole supports a wide variety of data transmission protocols. Within the eiConsole, "Listener" components are responsible for data acquisition. This process can be push or pull, batch or realtime. Following the product’s unique Assembly Line approach, each and every Listener is configured the same way. First, the appropriate Listener type is selected from the library of available components. Next, configuration information is entered into a simple set of fields organized into tabs. "Transport" components manage the process of sending data to endpoint systems. Data may be sent synchronously or asynchronously, again using any number of supported protocols. Like the other Listeners and Transports, the Direct Protocol can be implemented through filling out a simple configuration panel in just a few steps.
