Pill-Free Migraine Relief Option Eases Pain with No Known Side Effects
Date:6/23/2016

While migraines are difficult enough to deal with on their own, many sufferers experience side effects from the medications prescribed to ease their recurring head pain. In a study of 1,200 migraine sufferers published in the journal Headache*, two-thirds delayed or avoided taking their current prescription due to concerns or experiences with side effects. Those on triptans – commonly prescribed for migraines – and other prescription medications reported sleepiness, fatigue, nausea, and difficulty thinking.

“If the side effects compound the situation or further impact a migraine patient’s functioning, the person just won’t take them and suffer through the migraine, instead, as it runs its course,” explains Stephen D. Silberstein, MD, Neurologist and Director of the Jefferson Headache Center at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. “I advise that patients consider alternative, no-pill options, such as Stopain Migraine, as a first step for migraine pain relief, because if they respond well to the topical gel alone, they can actually avoid taking the prescription, and, if they don’t respond to the topical, they still have the option of the oral therapy, since there are no known drug interactions with this topical formula.”

Dr. Silberstein recently studied** Stopain Migraine and found that it works both alone or in conjunction with oral migraine therapies.

In addition to the unique Stopain Migraine topical gel, now available at CVS, Rite Aid, Walmart, Amazon.com and other retailers, consider these other non-painful, non-pill alternatives to help manage migraine pain or to use in conjunction with your traditional medications:

  • Massage
  • Meditation
  • Dietary tracking/food journaling (check out the free MigraineChecked app to track potential food and beverage triggers)
  • Stress management
  • Biofeedback

“Stopain Migraine is an effective alternative or adjunct for migraine pain relief due to its accessibility as an OTC medicine, its rapid onset of action and lack of systemic side effects,” says Anthony Cicini, vice president of Troy Healthcare, maker of Stopain Migraine. “Stopain Migraine begins to work as soon as it’s applied and can be applied at any stage of a migraine, 1p to four times daily.”
