Physicians at Pain Care Bring Hope to Hundreds of Pain Management Patients Who Previously Had None Through Use of a New Procedure Called Spinal Cord Stimulation

Spinal Cord Stimulation is a minimally invasive, outpatient procedure, which involves the insertion of a lead through a needle sized cannula into the epidural space of the spine. For that reason, we tend to steer patients toward interventional procedures like SCS for their pain relief. Who is a candidate for a SCS? Anyone who suffers from neuropathic pain or pain stemming from damaged nerves. “Once a patient is approved for the procedure, we first perform a trial procedure or a test drive as many patients describe it”, explains Dr. Galan. “During this time the patient is implanted with trial leads which are attached to an external stimulator. The patient is then exposed to the stimulation for a period of 3-5 days. If the patient feels that it is helpful in controlling their pain, we then move forward with a permanent implantation.”
