Physicians Wellness Network Announces Lab Testing Services for Consumers built on Microsoft HealthVault
Date:10/4/2007

JACKSON HOLE, Wyo., Oct. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Removing barriers to laboratory results by providing direct to consumer laboratory testing, Physicians Wellness Network (PWN) today announced that it has released a consumer selected lab testing service built on HealthVault, Microsoft Corp.'s newly launched consumer health platform.

"Consumers come to Microsoft HealthVault for direct access to their own health information that allows them to better manage their own health needs," said Brent Blue MD, President. "By building on Microsoft HealthVault, we feel confident that this on-demand lab testing service will provide consumers with enhanced functionality and significant value. Plus, it removes logistical and financial barriers to ordering lab tests, blood drawing, and receipt of laboratory results."

"Consumer-selected lab testing with direct access to test results is exactly the type of value-added service that delivers on the promise of Health 2.0," said Peter Neupert, corporate vice president for the Health Solutions Group at Microsoft. "In the past, acquiring your cholesterol numbers took weeks; now, with Microsoft HealthVault and Physicians Wellness Network, consumers can have this information in days. PWN is a trusted national network of physicians dedicated to connecting consumers with their health data in a privacy- and security-enhanced manner."

PWN was founded in 2001 by a physician and a healthcare executive in partnership with a national clinical reference laboratory. The mission of the company is to connect consumers with their own health information, from a regulatory compliant and secure web platform. "Our national network of 250 credentialed physicians share a common vision: that informed consumers improve the patient-physician dialog and invest the consumer in pursuing healthy behavior," Dr. Blue stated.

From their web platform - LabDirect - PWN provides a scalable communications link among consumers, our physicians and the reference laboratories to deliver a compliant solution for consumer selected lab tests. The PWN Lab Test Advisory Board approves the limited wellness test menu offered to consumers, and the workflow from lab order to lab result is under the custodial care of the physician who resides in the state where the consumer lives. Intended to provide the consumer with information they can use with their own physician to improve their health, Physicians Wellness Network is a Health 2.0 company with a focus on compliance.
