Physical Therapist to Receive Humanitarian Award
Date:4/20/2013

Astoria, NY (PRWEB) April 20, 2013

A prominent Greek-American Physical Therapist Dr. Dimitrios Kostopoulos will receive the distinguished Humanitarian Award from the Bnai Zion Foundation at a Tribute Dinner that is scheduled to take place on Thursday May 9th, 2013 at the Bnai Zion House in New York City.

Dr. Kostopoulos, a world renowned physical therapist and medical doctor in the area of myofascial pain, has selected to benefit with half of the proceeds from the event the Rehabilitation Department at the Bnai Zion Medical Center in Haifa, Israel. The other half will be distributed to the Hellenic Relief Foundation, an organization that provides vital assistance to families in Greece that have been afflicted by the financial crisis.

The Bnai Zion Medical Center is the only hospital in northern Israel with a rehabilitation department, and it provides medical care of the highest quality with a compassionate touch to citizens regardless of race, religion or ethnicity. Dr. Kostopoulos visited the hospital in February and met with many patients and staff from the rehabilitation department and listened to their problems and needs. In another trip to Greece, Dr Kostopoulos participated in the preparation of food distribution to the children and families fed monthly by the Hellenic Relief Foundation and promised to them any possible help. "It is so upsetting to see a father and his five year old son searching for food in the garbage. We as a society what kind of lessons do we teach our children? It is unacceptable." Kostopoulos said in a recent television interview.

"It's very exciting to be a part of this wonderful event that combines a Tribute Dinner honoring Dr. Dimitrios Kostopoulos, a humanitarian and personal friend, with a Fundraising Event that will greatly benefit both the Bnai Zion Medical Center and the Hellenic Relief Foundation, which do so much for their respective causes and communities in Haifa, Israel and all over Greece,” Evangelina Triliouris, a lawyer and one of the dinner’s co-chairs told in a press conference.

Other co-chairs include Dr. Mark Amir, Dr. Richard Brandt, Billy Yip, Thomas Fitzgibbon, Jr., Dr. Richard Gilbert, Hon. Charles Lavine, Dr. Konstantine Rizopoulos, Nancy and Oscar Romero.

Dr. Dimitrios Kostopoulos is a leading expert in myofascial pain and co-founder of the Hands-On companies, which focus on physical therapy and rehabilitation, diagnostic testing, education and business management. As an educator, Dr. Kostopoulos, a co-founder of Hands-On Seminars has taught over thirty thousand clinicians around the word. As a clinician, he is a board-certified clinical electrophysiology specialist who has helped thousands of patients over his 25 years of clinical practice.

Dr. Kostopoulos serves on the board of directors of the Hellenic Medical Society, of the AIPT (as past co-chair) and of SACE, where he is an item writer for the Clinical Electrophysiology board exam. He is also associate editor of the Journal of Bodywork and Movement Therapies (JBMT). Dr Kostopoulos is a past faculty member of Mercy College, a Diplomat of the American Academy of Pain Management, and an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association and of the American Academy of Orthopedic & Manipulative Physical Therapy.
