PHILADELPHIA, May 12 /PRNewswire/ -- FutureScripts(R), the premier pharmacy benefit manager in Philadelphia, debuts a new website today at http://www.futurescripts.com. The website is a valuable tool for plan participants, health care professionals, and benefit managers to find key information about the drugs on FutureScripts' formulary, how safe prescribing procedures work, and much more.
"The new website allows our customers to find vital information about their medications -- whether a drug is available as a generic and what that drug costs compared to similar medications," said Paul N. Urick, R.Ph., senior vice president of FutureScripts(R), LLC. "Our website also provides health care professionals and plan participants the latest updates on the drugs on our formulary."
Through the site, plan participants can find a participating pharmacy within the FutureScripts' national network of more than 60,000 retail and specialty locations by ZIP code search or by entering a pharmacy name. Benefit managers can read about the latest pharmacy trends through the online FutureScripts InSight(SM) newsletter. The Frequently Asked Questions section features the most common inquiries received by FutureScripts, ranging from 'What is a 96-hour temporary supply?' to 'How do I request an exception to an age, gender, or quantity limit?'
"Overall, our new site was designed to service the needs of our customers and was developed in response to their suggestions," said Urick. "We expect to further enhance and customize our website to fit the evolving needs of plan participants, employers, health care providers, and pharmacists."
"When developing FutureScripts as a premier pharmacy benefit manager, the goal was to build a cost-saving prescription solution to help customers manage rising prescription drug costs without sacrificing quality," said Urick. "Our new website is one more way we can give our customers the information they need to make cost-saving decisions about drug coverage and use."
Urick's team at FutureScripts manages prescription drug benefits with an annual drug spend of more than $1.3 billion. FutureScripts offers a full array of pharmacy management services, including formulary development and management, pharmaceutical contracting, specialty drug services, mail-order pharmacy, and claims processing.
FutureScripts began operations on October 1, 2006, handling the administration of prescription drug benefits for employer groups and health plans. Currently, FutureScripts provides its services to more than 1.3 million plan participants in the Philadelphia region, with plans to expand in the marketplace in the future. FutureScripts' key accounts include major school systems, corporations, and labor unions in Southeastern Pennsylvania. In its first year of business FutureScripts processed more than 15 million pharmacy claims.
To promote the increased use of generics, FutureScripts updates its formulary quarterly to ensure that as soon as patents expire on brand-name drugs, they are moved to third tier with the highest copay and the new generics are added to the formulary to the first tier with the lowest copay.
As part of the significant effort to raise awareness and use of generic drugs, FutureScripts managed one of the industry's most innovative pharmaceutical programs, Independence Blue Cross's No Pay Copay. This initiative waived copays for generic prescription drugs during 2007. No Pay Copay proved highly successful, with 87 percent of surveyed members reporting that they will continue to ask their doctors for generic prescriptions, and three-quarters reporting they believe generics are as safe and as effective as their brand-name counterparts.
Continuing to grow, FutureScripts has 115 business associates and pharmacists on staff and is currently hiring for key talent positions. The FutureScripts website includes multiple job opportunities and allows for direct, online applications for qualified candidates.
