PharmMD Expands Advisory Board
Date:12/1/2008

NASHVILLE, Tenn., Dec. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Medication therapy management (MTM) provider PharmMD recently added three accomplished professionals to its advisory board.

New members of the PharmMD advisory board include Martin Makary, M.D.; Michael Burcham; and Kevin Hutchinson. The three join an elite group of advisors that has helped PharmMD launch and hone its MTM services, which work to guard against medication error, misuse, overuse and abuse. MTM is proven to reduce the cost of providing drug benefits and improve the health of individual patients by taking measures to ensure they receive the most appropriate medications.

Martin Makary, M.D., is an active surgeon at The Johns Hopkins Hospital and professor for the university's Bloomberg School of Public Health. Dr. Makary currently serves in leadership roles for the United Nations World Health Organization (WHO), American College of Surgeons and International Union of Risk Management.

Michael Burcham most recently served as president of ParadigmHealth, a specialty care and disease management provider that integrates care and disease management services for health plan and employer clients. Prior to joining ParadigmHealth, Burcham founded and served as president of Theraphysics, a specialty rehabilitation firm. He began his career in healthcare with National HealthCorp and Hospital Corporation of America. Burcham is currently professor for the practice of management at the Owen Graduate School of Management at Vanderbilt University.

Kevin Hutchinson is president and CEO of Prematics, developer of the nation's first fully managed electronic medication prescribing solution. Prior to joining Prematics, Hutchinson was the founding president and CEO of SureScripts, where he led the effort to finance, build and deploy the Pharmacy Health Information Exchange, a national network for electronic prescribing and health information exchange.

PharmMD's other advisory board members include Gregg Lehman, Ph.D., president and CEO of Health Fitness Corporation; Dennis Delaney, executive vice president of human resources and administration for Ingram Industries; and Michael Hogue, Pharm.D., assistant professor of pharmacy practice at the McWhorter School of Pharmacy at Samford University in Birmingham, Ala.

"Medication-related health issues remain a critical problem both for insurers and for countless individuals across the country," said Bo Bartholomew, co-founder and CEO of PharmMD. "Our advisory board has offered invaluable counsel as we have fine-tuned our services and implemented our market strategy to address these issues. We are excited to welcome Martin, Michael and Kevin at such a strategic time in our company's development."
