Pfizer Closes La Jolla Campus Due to Continuing Fire Emergency

SAN DIEGO, Oct. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Pfizer Inc announced today that its La Jolla campus will close on Wednesday to allow the site's 1,000 scientists and staff to cope with San Diego County's ongoing fire emergency. Determination on further closures will depend upon day-to-day analysis of information from the many agencies involved in dealing with the disaster.

"Many of our colleagues live in areas impacted by the fires so it's important that they take the time to care for their families and loved ones," said Kitty Mackey, site head.

Mackey said Pfizer will alert colleagues of plans via email and has also established a toll-free number to call for updates: 800-501-2474

The 33.5-acre campus includes eight buildings with more than 1-million square feet and a new incubator facility (The Pfizer Incubator), where Pfizer is financing life science start-ups. Pfizer La Jolla's 1,000 scientists and staff focus on discovering and developing new medicines to treat many forms of cancer and diseases of the eye.
