Implementation of Electronic Health Records Critical to Improving Quality of U.S. Healthcare

PLANO, Texas, March 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Perot Systems Corporation (NYSE: PER), the U.S. market leader for providing healthcare IT services and clinical transformation, today announced it will host a second comprehensive webinar about the impact that the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) will have on the U.S. Healthcare industry. The webinar will be held Thursday, March 12 at 10:30 a.m. Central time (11:30 a.m. Eastern), and will be open to healthcare industry leaders. Perot Systems also announced the launch of a dedicated section of its Web site, www.perotsystems.com/insights, that provides up-to-date information and analysis of the ARRA and related healthcare issues.

The company hosted its first webinar on the ARRA on February 18th, the day after President Obama signed the bill into law. Approximately 400 C-level leaders from hospitals, physician groups and health insurance providers participated in the webinar, hosted by Dr. Harry Greenspun, chief medical officer for Perot Systems and Tim Quigley, leader of sales and business development for Perot Systems healthcare group.

"Response to the webinar as a live, interactive source of information about the complexities of the ARRA has been immediate and strong from the healthcare industry," Greenspun said. "We know the challenges and intricacies of clinical transformation, electronic health record implementation and adoption, and having a forum like this to work through some of those issues together is a positive step towards making the ARRA work to improve the quality of healthcare in America."

Perot Systems launched the "Insights" section of its website to provide comprehensive information to the general public and members of the healthcare industry about the healthcare provisions of the ARRA, including funding for upgrading electronic health records technology, regulations and compliance issues that will affect the implementations, and more. "At Perot Systems, we are committed to delivering the processes and technology that improve patient care while reducing costs and errors," said Chuck Lyles, president of Perot Systems healthcare group. "Because of this legislation, Americans will benefit from dramatic improvements in technology in one of the most important areas of their lives - their health."
