PeopleKeys Personality Tests Give Job Seekers a Competitive Advantage
Date:4/16/2013

Boardman, OH (PRWEB) April 16, 2013

Earlier this month, the United States Department of Labor released a report estimating that 12 million Americans are currently unemployed. Considering this number, it’s no surprise that competition for jobs is stronger than ever. Every time a new job opening is posted, companies are flooded with applications. With such a large pool of candidates for employers to choose from, job seekers have been employing a creative new strategy to help them stand out from the competition: personality testing.

Personality tests such as Myers-Briggs and DISC have long been popular tools for individuals seeking self-awareness and insight into their behavior. DISC personality tests, especially, are gaining in popularity among job seekers, as they provide an overview of the test-taker’s personality that is clear, insightful, and easy to understand.

The biggest reason that personality tests like DISC have become so popular is that the tests reveal fears, motivations, talents, personality traits, and patterns of behavior that are otherwise very difficult for individuals to identify and articulate. When used in conjunction with a job search, personality tests:

  •     Help job seekers understand and articulate their own unique skills
  •     Identify components of behavior that are an obstacle to employment
  •     Provide strategies for adapting personality to better mesh with potential coworkers
  •     Teach individuals how to productively respond to stressful situations
  •     Explain how to more effectively communicate with others

When an applicant takes a personality test before a job interview, they are better prepared to provide insightful answers to very difficult interview questions. The degree of introspection and self-awareness that a personality test provides is impressive to hiring managers, as it makes candidates appear poised and self-actualized. It also helps candidates know how to answer interview questions honestly, provide specific examples, communicate productively with the interviewer, and feel confident in their abilities.

Traditionally, interview preparation has focused on researching the products, services, and history of a potential employer. With the job market as competitive as it is, applicants are going above and beyond the usual methods of interview preparation. Personality tests are now an essential tool for anyone hoping to stand out in a sea of qualified applicants.
