Pennsylvania Education Secretary Lauds Action on Measure to Create Statewide School Health Benefits System

HARRISBURG, Pa., Jan. 30 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Education Secretary Gerald L. Zahorchak today issued the following statement in response to the House Education Committee approving House Bill 1841, legislation to create a statewide health benefits system for school employees:

"The House Education Committee took a major step today to protect Pennsylvania taxpayers, preserve the quality of health care for educators, and cut down on teacher strikes," Zahorchak said. "The committee's bipartisan support of legislation to create a statewide school health benefits system sends a strong message. We look forward to working with the House and Senate to address any remaining issues and enact a law that tackles one of the biggest cost drivers impacting public schools."
