Pennsylvania Department of Health Launches Spanish-Language Smoking Cessation Resource Web Site
Date:6/4/2009

bacco products are advertised and promoted disproportionately to members of racial/minority communities. For example, marketing toward Hispanic consumers has included advertising and promotion of cigarette brands with names such as Rio and Dorado, as well as sponsored cultural events such as parades, festivals and national heritage month observances.

The Department of Health's tobacco efforts are intended to help individuals to quit -- or never start -- using tobacco products, and to curb the retail sale of tobacco to minors.

Under a state law that took effect last September, smoking is prohibited in most public places and workplaces across Pennsylvania.

To access more information and support to quit smoking, call the Pennsylvania Free Quitline at 1-800-784-8669 or visit www.DeterminedToQuit.com or www.estoydecidido.com.
