Paying it Forward: Washington, DC LASIK Vision Care Practice Sponsors New Contest to Reward Good Deeds
Date:4/21/2009

Eye Doctors of Washington is giving back to the community by encouraging others to do the same… and capture it on video. The reward? Free LASIK treatment and the knowledge that good deeds can mean a world of difference in troubling times.

(Vocus) April 21, 2009 -- One of the most respected vision care facilities in the area is inviting the public to commit a random act of kindness and lend a helping hand. Eye Doctors of Washington, a Washington, DC LASIK facility, is sponsoring a new contest that encourages individuals in the area to do something positive that helps someone else, and capture it on video. Each person that submits a video will receive a $1000 discount on LASIK, and the winning entry will be awarded a 100% free LASIK eye surgery procedure.

The “Changing the Way People See the World” contest is designed to showcase the power of goodness and humanity even in tough times, and to reward those who give back to their community. In addition to rewarding those who enter videos, Eye Doctors of Washington’s Washington, DC and Maryland LASIK practice will donate a free pair of glasses to charity for each video submitted.

Contestants are encouraged to videotape themselves, a friend, a family member, or even a stranger doing something positive for someone else, and the “good deed” can be either big or small.
After submitting the video to the facility, staff members at Eye Doctors of Washington will choose the top five finalists and post them on their website. Viewers will then be able to vote on the video they feel is the most inspirational.

The winner of the “Changing the Way People See the World” contest will receive a free LASIK eye surgery procedure - a treatment to correct common vision problems such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. Winners can choose to have the LASIK treatment themselves, or give the award to someone else. LASIK is an FDA-approved procedure designed to help patients achieve sharper vision and reduce or eliminate the need for corrective eyewear such as glasses or contact lenses.

Contestants can submit their videos from now until May 31st, 2009. The initial batch of entries will be judged on creativity, uniqueness, and authenticity, and whether the “good deed” is clearly and adequately shown in the video. The top five finalists will be announced on June 1st at www.edow.com, and voting can be implemented directly on the website between June 1st and June 12th. The winner will be chosen on Monday, June 15th.

Last year, Eye Doctors of Washington sponsored the successful Destroy Your Glasses contest, where individuals were invited to come up with the most creative way to eliminate their eyeglasses and catch it on video. Like this year’s contest, the winner was awarded a free LASIK procedure and every contestant entering a video was given a $1000 discount on LASIK. Eye Doctors of Washington subsequently donated a pair of eyeglasses for each submission.

Eye Doctors of Washington has been offering state-of-the-art vision care for more than 40 years. Having performed over 20,000 LASIK procedures between them, Drs. Thomas E. Clinch, Paul C. Kang, and Susan Majlessi are some of the most experienced LASIK eye surgeons in Washington, DC and the surrounding area. In addition to the popular LASIK and other laser eye surgery procedures, Eye Doctors of Washington offers a comprehensive array of vision care options, including cataract surgery, implantable contact lenses (ICLs), and glaucoma treatment. The facility, originally founded by professors from the Center for Sight at Georgetown University, employs some of the nation’s top ophthalmologists and has built its reputation on being a state-of-the-art, academically-oriented vision care practice.
