Patients and Advocates Raise Awareness for Deadly Preventable Cancer, According to Surviving Mesothelioma

September 26th marks the day when people around the nation are asked to help raise public awareness of mesothelioma, a rare cancer caused by asbestos exposure. Click here to read more about Mesothelioma Awareness Day on the Surviving Mesothelioma website.

Mesothelioma Awareness Day was organized in 2004 by mesothelioma advocates and has since been given official proclamations by both the US House and Senate.

One aim of Mesothelioma Awareness Day is to push for a US ban on asbestos, something 55 other countries already have. Another aim is to support funding for mesothelioma research.

“Mesothelioma is highly resistant to every kind of traditional cancer therapy, making the need for research funding for promising alternatives such as immunotherapy even more pressing,” says Alex Strauss, Managing Editor of Surviving Mesothelioma.
