Patients Today Are Asking - Which Doctors Are on Top?
Date:4/17/2019

Historically, patients have been reluctant to question their physicians and their advice. However, recently, this reluctance appears to be changing. Whether because of demographic or generational changes, patients seem to have become more willing to challenge or, at least, probe their healthcare providers advice.

In the past, efforts to publish performance data about doctors and hospitals were usually met with much push back, but even that is changing now. Patients are beginning to be provided the information they need to make their own healthcare decisions, including finding providers’ who are given top doctor awards. Previously, patients had little information about medical conditions and possible treatment options available to them. Choices as to how to deal with their medical issues, available physicians, and insurance coverage were limited. Patients were basically left to the mercy of an unknown healthcare system with little knowledge of and even less ability to control their outcome.

Fortunately, over the past few years, physicians have determined that the more information current and prospective patients receive, the more effective the healthcare services they can provide. More and more sites are providing information rating physicians and indicating instances of top doctor awards and accolades being recognized - leading to greater visibility and access to patients. Increasingly, doctors understand that the greater information patients are provided regarding general medical information, the more likely they are to seek treatment and the earlier. Additionally, providing more information regarding the physician’s certifications, specialties, affiliations, and insurance coverage reduces the unnecessary delay in offering effective, and sometimes, critical medical services to patients.

These recent developments have led to providing essential and useful information to patients, such as top doctor awards, and has improved the health and wellness of all communities. The greater access to general medical and health information and physician availability provides patients with the capacity to make intelligent decisions in regards to their personal healthcare. Clearly, patient advocacy is the path to the future in healthcare.
