Patient Safety Tip of the Week Enters Its Seventh Year
Date:2/19/2013

Lewiston, NY (PRWEB) February 19, 2013

Patient Safety Tip of the Week, a weekly healthcare newsletter focused on patient safety, is entering its seventh year of publication. It is now the longest running free weekly patient safety newsletter in the US.

Written by Brad Truax, MD, principal consultant for The Truax Group Healthcare Consulting, Patient Safety Tip of the Week is available either online at PatientSafetySolutions.com or by email subscription. The newsletter provides useful and timely discussions of a variety of patient safety and quality improvement issues, with links to relevant current publications and resources. The archived files, also available for free online, now contain over 400 free articles covering virtually every patient safety topic.

Bruce F. Middendorf, MD, Chief Medical Officer at St. Mary’s Health Care System in Athens, Georgia says “I find the “Patient Safety Tip of the Week” provides very relevant actionable information for our hospital. It is written in a concise evidence-based manner for clinicians. As Chief Medical Officer I use this as a guide for best practices in our health care system to drive quality and safety. I would not be without it.” He goes on to say “I really do enjoy receiving it and read it with enthusiasm each week. I get so many emails promoting quality, safety, etc. that are more advertisements to buy a product. Patient Safety Tip of the Week has none of that clutter or bias, and is pertinent and useful.”

Kiera Champlin-Kuhn RN BS, Director of Quality, Safety and Utilization Management and Patient Safety Officer at FF Thompson Health System in Canandaigua, NY notes “The Patient Safety Tip of the Week is a tremendous way to use real patient safety scenarios and areas of interest to provide continuous education to nursing, medical staff, hospital leadership and hospital boards about improving patient safety. The tips are easy to read, well referenced and very relevant to the patient safety concerns lurking in hospitals today. Also, the Patient Safety Tips are easy to distribute by simply clicking forward in your email.”

The newsletter prides itself on the timeliness of its patient safety topics and the useful, practical nature of its tips on patient safety issues. Its numerous links take you right to the relevant literature on each topic. It’s makes great use of the Internet. And it pulls no punches – it provides objective analysis of studies and points out what is “spin” in the studies vs. what is “fact”.
