Date:9/27/2007

NEWPORT NEWS, Va., Sept. 27 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Patient Advocate Foundation (PAF) -- a national non-profit organization that provides patient services to tens of thousands of patients every year who are unable to obtain access to care because of financial or insurance denials --announced this month the addition of four new Executive Board members including health care policy leaders and medical professionals --- Roy Ramthun; Pearl Moore, RN; Alan Balch, PhD; and Venus Gines. All newly appointed members come to the board with a wealth of experience in the health care field where they have worked to understand the current policy landscape and the difficulties patients face in accessing care.

"We are honored to welcome these distinguished and respected professionals to our Executive Board of Directors," said Nancy Davenport-Ennis, President and CEO of PAF. "PAF received more than 6.2 million requests for information or services last year alone resulting in almost 40,000 cases that required our professional team of case managers to negotiate their case resolution. Our organization's leadership is dedicated to finding the most effective means to provide health care access assistance to all patients who seek our help. I am proud of our unique ability to gather together a group of leading experts to best represent the people we serve--and the health care spectrum as whole."

Ray Ramthun joins the PAF Executive Board of Directors from HSA Consulting Services, LLC, a practice specializing in consumer driven health care issues. Ramthun, a nationally recognized expert in the area of Health Saving Accounts, most recently served in the current Administration as a senior health policy advisor to President George W. Bush and led the implementation of Health Savings Accounts for the U.S. Department of Treasury in 2003. Ramthun brings to PAF more than 20 years of health care policy, government relations, and private sector experience.

Pearl Moore, RN, MN, FAAN most recently served as the Chief Executive Officer of the Oncology Nursing Society of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Moore, a nurse for more than 50 years, is currently an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing. She has received a variety of honors and awards throughout her prestigious career including the Oncology Nursing Society Lifetime Achievement Award. Moore, a respected leader in the oncology nursing community, has shared her expertise with groups worldwide and been published in more than a dozen medical journals and publications including the New England Journal of Medicine and Oncology News International.

Alan Balch, PhD is the Vice President of the Preventative Health Partnership, a joint effort by the American Cancer Society, American Diabetes Association and the American Heart Association, created to promote healthy lifestyles by increasing public awareness of disease prevention and early detection. Dr. Balch's past experience as the Executive Director of the Friends of Cancer Research and his work with the medical and academic communities to overcome barriers to cancer research will be a strong asset to PAF programs and relationships. He also has an extensive background in economic and environmental policy.

Venus Gines, a breast cancer survivor of more than 15 years, is the founder of Dia de Le Mujar Latina, Inc., an organization dedicated to educating the Latino community about healthy living and disease prevention. Since Gines organized the first Latino family healthy fiesta, a collaboration of Latino organizations, private and non-profit health care groups, community leaders, community health departments and volunteers, more than 27,000 Latinos have participated. She has been nationally recognized as a leader in the Latin American community through her service on the President's Cancer Panel and the Susan G. Komen National Hispanic/Latina Advisory Council.
