Founded in 1951, The Joint Commission is an independent, not-for-profit organization that seeks to inform and protect clients and consumers, educate providers and support improvement in the quality of behavioral health care organizations overall. Today, The Joint Commission accredits more than 1,800 behavioral health care organizations. The Joint Commission develops all of its standards in consultation with behavioral health care experts, providers, measurement experts, clients and their families. To earn and maintain accreditation, a behavioral health care organization must undergo an on-site survey by a Joint Commission survey team at least every three years.

Passages to Recovery employs an innovative, dual-diagnostic approach to addiction treatment, addressing alcohol and substance abuse, chemical dependency, and co-occurring mental health issues via traditional interventions, a 12 Step program, classic wilderness therapy, psychological testing administered by a clinical psychologist, and research-based methodology. The Passages to Recovery experience includes backpacking, camping, mastering primitive skills, participating in sweat lodges and completing a Vision Quest. During the expedition, the constant noise and distractions of urban life are left behind, providing the silence and serenity conducive to a physical, emotional and spiritual awakening.

Passages to Recovery is a program of Aspen Education Group, the nation’s leading provider of therapeutic education programs for struggling or underachieving young people.
