Partnership for a Drug-Free America and Colorado Springs Police Department Introduce Methamphetamine Prevention Program to Colorado Law Enforcement
Date:9/26/2007

d resources needed to implement the program, including downloadable, multimedia Meth360 presentations as well as an online tutorial offering comprehensive information about methamphetamine and guidance on delivering the presentation. The site also houses a social network, allowing presenters within communities and across the country to coordinate their efforts and share experiences.

"The tremendous response to Meth360, both from our law enforcement partners and audiences who have seen the presentation, reaffirms that communities are a willing and powerful ally in stopping meth," said Mike Townsend, executive vice president at the Partnership. "As concern about this drug continues to spread, motivating parents and concerned citizens to learn about meth's dangers and spread the word is more critical than ever. We are pleased to offer Meth360 as a tool to help Colorado communities work together against meth and future drug threats."

Once a threat confined to the West, methamphetamine now affects every state in the country. Federal restrictions on the precursor chemicals needed to manufacture meth have contributed to a sharp decline in meth labs nationwide. However, the Drug Enforcement Administration now reports that at least 75 percent of all meth used in the United States is imported from superlabs in Mexico and trafficked throughout the country.

Meth360 is funded by grants from the United States Department of Justice's Office of Community Oriented Policing Services. The program was first launched in four states in 2006, and is expanding to ten additional states throughout 2007.
