Partial Knee Replacement – If It’s Not Broken, Don’t Fix It. A Guide to Knee Replacements
Date:3/29/2013

nee replacement and a total knee replacement?
A partial knee replacement implant is much smaller than a total knee implant and does not disturb the knee’s healthy tissues. For a partial knee replacement, a three to four inch incision is made, rather than the twelve inch incision required for total knee replacement. Also, with a total knee replacement, the knee surface loses up to a half inch of bone on each of the three compartments while only a quarter inch of one compartment is removed for a partial knee replacement. A partial knee replacement does not require a blood transfusion where patients are often required to donate blood before a total knee replacement to replace the quantity lost during surgery.

Often times a patient will be given a total knee replacement when only part of the knee needs replacing. The expert doctors at FKOC specialize in partial knee replacements and never schedule unnecessary or overly invasive procedures for knee pain that can be successfully treated with a partial knee replacement. Your knees take care of you, let’s make sure you take care of them. Like the old saying goes, “If it’s not broken, don’t fix it” and we like to think that applies to your knees as well.
