Singapore-based cancer centre launches series of educational webinars and presence on Twitter

Singapore (PRWEB) October 16, 2009 -- Parkway Cancer Centre (PCC), Singapore's leading private cancer centre, has today announced the launch of its 'Understanding Cancer' Webinar Series.

Starting 24 October, the first webinar of the series is on breast cancer with Senior Consultant of Medical Oncology at Parkway Cancer Centre, Dr Khoo Kei Siong. The one-hour online seminar, which starts at 2 pm (GMT +8), will begin with a web presentation by Dr. Khoo, followed by a question-and-answer session for the audience to have the opportunity to interact with the doctor.

Around the world, more than 10 million people are diagnosed with cancer each year (World Health Organisation World Cancer Report 2003, International Agency for Research on Cancer). Basic information and facts about the killer disease, how to prevent it and what to do if it does strike, could help save more lives.

It is with this in mind that PCC is launching a series of webinars covering commonly found cancers, types of treatment and prevention over the next six weeks.

'Understanding Cancer' Webinar Schedule:

- 24 October: "The 6 Biggest Myths of Breast Cancer" by Dr Khoo Kei Siong
- 31 October: "Colorectal & Other Gastrointestinal Cancers" by Dr Foo Kian Fong
- 7 November: "Fighting Cancer - Stories of Hope" by Dr Ang Peng Tiam
- 14 November: "Lung Cancer - Detection and Latest Treatment Methods" by Dr Lim Hong Liang
- 21 November: "Top Three Gynaecological Cancers - What You Should Know" by Dr See Hui Ti
- 28 November: "Cancer Prevention & Treatment - How Nutrition Can Help" by CanHOPE Dietician

To take part in the webinar, participants will need to register in advance by visiting "www.parkwaycancercentre.com/understandingcancer".

To equip the public with the latest cancer facts, PCC is also hosting a cancer awareness carnival - 'Understanding Cancer' - held in conjunction with '50 Plus Active Ageing Carnival 2009' and 'U Live-The Good Life'. It will be held on 8 November from 10am to 5pm at Downtown East, 1 Pasir Ris Close, Singapore.

Activities include seminars on latest cancer treatment methods, workshops on cancer nutrition, breast self-examination and exercising for cancer prevention, on-site health screenings, in-conversations with specialists and an all-day health fair.

In addition, PCC has launched a Twitter account (@hopeforcancer) to share important information, news, trends and stories on cancer regularly.
