Los Angeles, CA (Vocus) March 15, 2009 -- Dr. Khanna has found PRELEX is better than Lasik for individuals over 50. It Imparts distance and near vision in each eye. PRELEX is longer lasting, prevents the development of cataracts, and does not induce dry eye.

PRELEX restores one's vision to a more youthful age, giving you optimum vision in both eyes, preserving binocular vision and depth of field. It allows each eye to see far (for watching the ball game), middle (for computer work) and near (for reading the newspaper). This is not mono-vision (which is one eye for far and the other for near). PRELEX is an acronym for presbyopic refractive lens exchange. In this 10-15 minute sterile procedure the natural lens is vaporized using sound waves and replaced by an artificial presbyopic lens implants such as RESTOR Aspheric Multifocal and Crystalens HD. This procedure can be preformed if a patient currently has cataracts or have had previous RK, PRK, or Lasik surgery. This lens technology is FDA approved for cataract surgery. Presbyopia is the condition which occurs in the mid 40's in which the lens of the eye loses its ability to focus leading to gradually worsening vision, requiring the need for reading glasses. Dr. Khanna has been performing this procedure for the last four years.
