PLAYTIME Joins the Child Life Council in Promoting Healthy Play at 31st Annual Conference in Denver, Colorado
Date:5/17/2013

Denver, CO (PRWEB) May 17, 2013

PLAYTIME, the global provider of interactive, soft play areas, will join more than 1,000 child life specialists from around the world in promoting play therapy at the 31st Annual Child Life Council Conference, May 16-19, 2013 in Denver, CO.

Child life specialists are experts in child development, promoting effective coping skills through play and self-expression activities. They encourage optimum development of children facing a broad range of challenging experiences, particularly those related to healthcare and hospitalization.

High-quality soft play areas – found today in hospitals, malls, physical therapy clinics and child care centers – provide a multi-sensory experience that motivates children to learn and strengthen as they play.

“While our new playground is certainly a place for fun, it has also been specifically designed to complement the physical and occupational therapy needs of our patients,” reports Barbara Meeks, Vice President, Pediatric Patient Care Services, at MCGHealth Children’s Medical Center in Augusta, GA.

The colorful dinosaur-themed indoor playground at MCGHealth Children’s Medical Center features a flowered tree and a pterodactyl that promote climbing and help children to build motor strength. A giant log serves as a balance beam for working on balance and wall-mounted games and puzzles help with cognition, problem-solving and hand/eye coordination.

Englewood-based PLAYTIME manufactures custom-themed, soft-sculpted play areas and playground equipment that are ADA-design compliant and ASTM-certified antibacterial to ensure a healthy, inclusive play environment.

“The play elements are the right scale and they encourage interaction,” says Kimberli Curtis, a physical therapist in Indiana. “I see a lot of possibilities within a therapy setting because active play engages and makes the work fun for children.”

PLAYTIME has installed soft play areas at Hasbro Children’s Hospital, the Children’s Hospital of Colorado, Baton Rouge Medical Centers, University of Iowa Children’s Hospital, Ronald McDonald House, SSM Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center, Titus Regional Medical Center, Gigi’s Playhouse Down Syndrome Awareness Center, and many others.

The play spaces also provide a special place where siblings can reconnect with their hospitalized brother or sister or where parents can leave the child’s hospital room to play with their children.

Des-Moines based GiGi’s Playhouse board member Gretchen Baldwin says, “By playing on the soft play systems, our kids can spend time with their families and build their confidence, coordination and creativity to achieve amazing things.”

The 31st Annual Child Life Council conference will take place from Thursday to Sunday, May 16-19, 2013 at the Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel.
