PEMCO Insurance Donates $10,000 to Seattle Children's in Name of 'Supercharged Seahawks Fans'
Date:2/2/2009

SEATTLE, Feb. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- PEMCO Insurance today announced it will donate $10,000 to the Bike Helmet Safety Program at Seattle Children's Hospital. As part of its contribution, PEMCO will host a bike helmet fitting and low-cost helmet sale later in the spring.

The donation to Seattle Children's marks the end of PEMCO's "Ultimate Supercharged Seahawks Fan Contest" inspired by profile # 12, the "Supercharged Seahawks Fan," from the company's "We're A Lot Like You. A Little Different." ad campaign.

Fan photos collected at Qwest Field on game days and submitted online through PEMCO's Web site (http://www.werealotlikeyou.com) were eligible to win weekly prizes. Entrants were judged on their ability to exude the most convincing "supercharged" fan characteristics, including passion, loyalty, responsibility and spontaneity. For each entry, PEMCO pledged to make a contribution to Seattle Children's.

"The true winners of this contest are the kids who will benefit from the Seattle Children's bike helmet program," said PEMCO spokesperson Jon Osterberg. "PEMCO is proud to stand behind programs promoting safety and injury prevention and we look forward to seeing our contribution in action."

Among the weekly "Supercharged" winners were David and Jordan Miller of Sequim, Wash., pictured above. PEMCO named a total of nine weekly winners during the Seahawks season. They were:

Jack Swenson of Renton, Wash. Lela Hanna of Bremerton, Wash.
Ben Simon of Kent, Wash. Heather Grimm of Sedro Woolley, Wash.
John Reynolds of Sammamish, Wash. Jay Aston of Longview, Wash.
John Hand of Sammamish, Wash. Tina DoRan-Criste of Bonney Lake, Wash.

To view a complete roster of the winning photos from PEMCO's "Ultimate Supercharged Seahawks Fan Contest," check out http://www.werealotlikeyou.com/winners.asp.

By entering PEMCO's "Supercharged" contest, entrants supported PEMCO's pledge to contribute to the Seattle Children's bike helmet program. The Bike Helmet Safety Program at Seattle Children's aims to provide education about bike helmet safety and provide custom-fit bike helmets at low cost to families in low-income and ethnically diverse communities in the Seattle area.

"Bike helmets are required by law in King County, and yet many children are still not wearing them" said Tizzy Bennett, director of Guest Services, Advocacy and Partnerships of Seattle Children's. "Wearing a helmet is key to preventing serious injury and PEMCO's donation will allow us to provide hundreds of custom-fit helmets to families who need them."

The first of several PEMCO-supported bike helmet-fitting events will take place at the 2009 Seattle Children's Community Health Fair on March 14. To learn more information about this free event, visit: seattlechildrens.org/child_health_safety/classes_events/events.asp#bike_helmet .
