MIDLOTHIAN, Va., Oct. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- PARI's Hydrate, a novel medical humidifier, was awarded a prestigious R&D 100 Award for innovative design on October 18, 2007. PARI Innovative Manufacturers, a leading manufacturer of nebulizers and compressors, developed the PARI Hydrate to revolutionize the way gases are heated and humidified with the aim to reduce contamination risk for patients and give clinicians greater control of patient comfort.
The award, selected by an independent panel of judges and the editors of R&D Magazine, "provides a mark of excellence known to industry, government, and academia as proof that the product is one of the most innovative ideas of the year," stated the magazine's Editor-in-Chief, Tim Studt.
"We are convinced the Hydrate will change the way clinicians provide high flow gas therapy by offering them unprecedented control and monitoring of gas conditions delivered through a nasal cannula," said Larry Weinstein, president of PARI Innovative Manufacturers. "The ability to provide precise humidity while adjusting temperature independently was unknown in respiratory therapy until Hydrate. We are proud to have been recognized by R&D magazine as innovators."
The PARI Hydrate with C-Force Technology uses a capillary force vaporizer, which is about the size of a large aspirin tablet and made of ceramic to heat and humidify gas flows of up to 40 L/min. When water is supplied to the bottom of the disc, capillary forces draw the liquid into the disc - similar to the way water is brought to the top of a tree. Heat is then applied through the top of the disc and the water undergoes phase transition into a vapor, expands, and is released under pressure through an opening.
C-Force Technology uses a Capillary Force Vaporizer, licensed by PARI from Vapore, Inc. at http://www.vapore.com.
