PAINWeekEnd Baltimore Brings Pain Management CME to Frontline Practitioners
Date:3/27/2013

Montclair, NJ (PRWEB) March 27, 2013

The 2013 PAINWeekEnd Regional Conference convenes on April 13-14 in Baltimore at the Sheraton Baltimore North. Now entering their third year, PAINWeekEnd Regional Conferences are 2-day programs of continuing education in pain management designed expressly for frontline practitioners.

PAINWeekEnd attendees can receive 8.0 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM as they enhance their capabilities in the assessment, diagnosis, and management of chronic pain conditions. Curriculum topics include pain assessment, chronic pain syndromes, differential diagnosis of migraine headache, the use of rational polypharmacy in treatment, patient-centered urine drug testing, and strategies for treating higher-risk patients.

Of special importance to frontline practitioners working in pain management is a briefing on government intervention in opioid prescribing. This course is being presented by Stephen J. Ziegler, JD, PhD, a national recognized leader on medico-legal issues and public policy. Mr. Ziegler observed, “Federal and state governments have long intervened in the regulation of medicine and medical practice. While many of these legal and regulatory efforts have indeed reduced harm, they have at times resulted in unintended consequences to both patients and prescribers. Consequently, it is essential for health care professionals to not only be aware of the current medico-legal trends in prescribing, but to also consider ways they could become active participants in regulatory reform.”

Commenting on the PAINWeekEnd Series, Debra Weiner, Director of Program Development noted, “Much attention has been brought to bear on the crisis of inadequate pain management as well as the need to balance access to medication with responsible prescribing practice. Considering the imbalance between the number of patients with pain and the paucity of available pain specialists, we’re encouraging primary care practitioners to ‘do the math’ and enhance their skills in this critical arena.”

The PAINWeekEnd curriculum is presented by a multidisciplinary faculty and is intended for physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nursing professionals, pharmacists, hospitalists, dentists, psychologists, and social workers. In addition, there will be commercially supported activities, both certified and noncertified, addressing a range of product, disease state, and medical information topics.

The online registration fee for PAINWeekEnd Conferences is $75.

PAINWeekEnd registrants are further offered the opportunity to apply their entire PAINWeekEND registration toward their attendance at the PAINWeek National Conference, held September 4-7 in Las Vegas. Groups of 5 or more PAINWeekEnd registrants also receive one FREE registration to the PAINWeek National Conference.
