National Race Series to increase awareness of prostate cancer and educate men and their families on the importance of early detection

Denver, CO (Vocus) December 2, 2009 -- Men, women, families, friends and neighbors – at all fitness levels – are invited to participate in the Rudolph Ramble 5K. The Rudolph Ramble 5K is a part of the national PACE Race Series, which was launched by the Prostate Conditions Education Council (PCEC) to increase awareness of prostate cancer and to educate men and their families on the importance of early detection. The PACE Race Series is sponsored by sanofi-aventis, as part of their commitment to the prostate cancer community. With events across the country, the PACE Race Series has the ability to touch men and women from all walks of life.

 
  • This year's Rudolph Ramble 5K PACE Race takes place on December 6th. 2009 in City Park. We encourage Denver citizens to recognize the importance of prostate health by joining in the race.

 
  • In addition to raising awareness, the Rudolph Ramble 5K PACE Race events include special recognition of survivors and caregivers, Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) blood screenings, “Ask a Doctor” booths, along with entertainment, fun and giveaways.

  • The Assurant Health RunDenver Series is an opportunity for the whole family to join the fight against prostate cancer, with a 5K run/walk and a half-mile kid's race. Additionally, as part of its efforts to raise greater prostate cancer awareness in Denver, the PCEC has over 14 races nation wide, ranging from San Francisco, CA to Boston, MA, promoting and providing educational information on prostate cancer to participants, supporters, survivors and patients.

“Raising awareness about prostate cancer is extremely important to us, as the disease currently affects more than two million American men,” said Wendy Poage, President, Prostate Cancer Education Council. “With races throughout the country, we have a real opportunity to touch men in all walks of life and educate them, and their families, about this devastating disease.”

  • The National PACE RACE 5Krun/walk series was launched in 2002, and includes races from coast to coast.
  • The PACE Race Series complements the PCEC's missions of offering free or low-cost prostate cancer screenings across the nation, as well as educating men, the women in their lives and the medical community about the prevalence of prostate cancer, the importance of early detection and available treatment options.

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in American men. With a one in six lifetime risk of developing prostate cancer, it is estimated that this year more than 192,000 men will be diagnosed in the United States, and nearly 27,400 will die from the disease this year.
