PA Secretary of Health Reminds Women to Focus on Their Health During National Women's Health Week
Date:5/12/2008

HARRISBURG, Pa., May 12 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- National Women's Health Week kicks off this week and runs through May 17, according to Pennsylvania Secretary of Health Dr. Calvin Johnson. This year's theme is "It's Your Time: Get Inspired. Get Healthy."

"Women are often the caregivers for their spouses, children and parents and many times forget to focus on their own health," said Dr. Johnson. "However, research shows that when women take care of themselves, the health of their family improves."

"Some of the most important things women can do to stay healthy are be tobacco free, eat a healthy diet, maintain a healthy weight, and get the recommended screening tests."

Screenings can find diseases early when they are easier to treat. Some common screenings include obesity, breast and cervical cancer, cholesterol, blood pressure and osteoporosis. Check with your family physician to see which screenings apply to you.
